A Day in the Life: The Triple Lake Ranch Puppy Experience
Have you ever wondered what makes a puppy confident, curious, and ready to take on the world? At Triple Lake Ranch, we believe it all starts from day one. The first ten weeks of a puppy's life are a whirlwind of growth and development, and we’ve crafted a program to ensure every moment is filled with purpose, learning, and love.
Here’s a look at what a typical day—and a foundational first few weeks—looks like for our Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies.
The Morning Check-In: Kisses & Cuddles
Before the sun is fully up, our day begins with the most important task: checking in on the puppies. This isn't just a quick glance. The very first thing we do is put our hands on every single puppy. We check their bellies, look in their eyes, and give them their morning kisses. This daily, gentle touch reassures them, builds a strong human bond, and allows us to ensure everyone is happy, healthy, and thriving.
The Nursery: Weeks 0-4
The earliest weeks are all about building a foundation of trust and sensory awareness. During this critical period, our daily routine includes:
Daily Handling Exercises: We gently handle their paws, ears, and mouths to prepare them for a lifetime of grooming and vet visits.
Early Scent Introduction (ESI): Each day, we introduce a new, safe scent (like lavender, grass, or orange peel) to stimulate their developing olfactory senses and build neurological pathways.
Yarn Collar Changes: Our puppies wear small, soft yarn collars to help us identify them. We change these regularly to ensure they are clean and comfortable.
Fresh Bedding: A clean environment is a healthy environment. Fresh, soft bedding is changed out daily to keep the whelping box pristine.
Puppy Preschool: Weeks 4-8
This is when the real fun begins! We call it our puppy curriculum—what you might call preschool for pups. The world starts to open up for them, and our job is to make it an exciting, safe place to explore.
Every single day, we change the location of their play and learning area. One day they might be in a new room in the house with different toys and textures; the next, they might be in a secure outdoor puppy playground. This constant change provides a rich variety of stimuli, teaching them to be adaptable and confident in new environments.
Advanced Placement & Field Trips: Weeks 8-10
As they get older and more confident, our preschool curriculum continues, but with an added layer of adventure: field trips! Twice a week, we take the puppies to entirely new locations to experience different sights, sounds, and smells. This could be a short car ride, a visit to a friend's house, or a walk through a pet-friendly store.
By the time our puppies are ready to leave for their new homes, they have had a full lifetime of positive experiences packed into their first few weeks. They are not just leaving us; they are graduating from a program designed to make them the best possible companions for their new families.
